I have one iPad and another one on order. I am amazed by it, BUT....there needs to be a better print option and although most of the iPhone apps carry over, when you pump them to full screen the resolution suffers. I am guessing both these minor issues will be fixed with apps and a few more bucks from my wallet. USA Today is beautiful and check out SketchBook Pro....HOLY COW! and only $8...I am not an artist but even I could draw some pretty cool stuff. The app begs for a print driver. On the downside...."you have got to be kidding" award goes to Popular Science that thinks they can charge FIVE TIMES a snail mail subscription for the digital version....good luck! Ever Popular Science figures it out or somebody else will.
I believe the iPad is going to be to education what the opposable thumb was to the monkey!! ...and you can quote me on that!! I also believe as more and more states shift to hands free calling (even the best hands free sets are terrible) and people shift more from voice to text, more people will dump their iPhones and buy a cheap dumb phone and a juiced iPad. That is my plan, the only sticking point is actually prying the iPhone out of my hands.
P.S. Great Show Ken!
If you do the math, you actually SAVE money by buying an iPad!! I will buy two iPads. Oregon along with a host of other states now has a "hands free" cell phone law which has accelerated my move away from voice and towards email only. I also find I have access to wifi 80%+ of the time. At this point I may move away from my iPhone and towards a bare bones cheap dumb phone and a top of the line iPad. If I was in college with the typical campus wide wifi, having an iPad and a basic phone would be a no brainer. The price of a dumb phone with minutes is about $30 and the data plan for the iPad is $15 to $30, so I could save $20 to $35 per month. In my case I will more likely be saving $50 a month and only paying the data when I travel. The iPad would be FREE in 10 to 14 months!!
I don't think people really get the impact this device could have. I believe the medical field is going to buy the iPad by the truck load. Depending on the text book selection for college I can't imagine a college student would own anything else! Apple showed off the power of the OS with iWork, I suspect apps with the functionality of Photoshop, Filemaker, and Illustrator will quickly follow and that is just the beginning. I think the iPad is an even bigger step forward than the iPhone or the iPod was.
