Wednesday Predictions
« on: January 25, 2010, 11:35:34 PM »

We all pretty much know the MTNT is coming on Wednesday but do you think there will be anything else coming?  It sounds like it will be devoted to the tablet by the invitations but who knows, there could be more, right?

It's clear the Mac Pro line needs a kick in the pants.  As someone who's in the market it's just plain disgusting you can get the same power out of an iMac (for the most part).  I would expect the Mac Pro line to go multi-i7 with some graphics or other upgrades soon before the line suffers.  Wednesday would be a good day to announce a Mac Pro refresh.

As far as the MTNT I think there's something monumental out there that they have been able to keep secret.  I can't believe they're going to go "early" and go so big at this announcement for a Super iPhone or iPod Touch.  There's something else here that we don't know about.  I don't know if it's some new take on input methods, voice recognition perhaps or a new way to sync with your Mac but there has to be something out there I think that's being kept top secret.

Or is this just wishful thinking? :P

If you do the math, you actually SAVE money by buying an iPad!! I will buy two iPads. Oregon along with a host of other states now has a "hands free" cell phone law which has accelerated my move away from voice and towards email only. I also find I have access to wifi 80%+ of the time. At this point I may move away from my iPhone and towards a bare bones cheap dumb phone and a top of the line iPad. If I was in college with the typical campus wide wifi, having an iPad and a basic phone would be a no brainer. The price of a dumb phone with minutes is about $30 and the data plan for the iPad is $15 to $30, so I could save $20 to $35 per month. In my case I will more likely be saving $50 a month and only paying the data when I travel. The iPad would be FREE in 10 to 14 months!!

I don't think people really get the impact this device could have. I believe the medical field is going to buy the iPad by the truck load. Depending on the text book selection for college I can't imagine a college student would own anything else! Apple showed off the power of the OS with iWork, I suspect apps with the functionality of Photoshop, Filemaker, and Illustrator will quickly follow and that is just the beginning. I think the iPad is an even bigger step forward than the iPhone or the iPod was.
