iPad for Education
« on: April 05, 2010, 07:45:07 AM »

I believe the iPad is going to be to education what the opposable thumb was to the monkey!! ...and you can quote me on that!! I also believe as more and more states shift to hands free  calling (even the best hands free sets are terrible) and people shift more from voice to text,  more people will dump their iPhones and buy a cheap dumb phone and a juiced iPad. That is my plan, the only sticking point is actually prying the iPhone out of my hands.

P.S. Great Show Ken!

I'm looking at the Verizon MiFi as an interesting alternative to an iPhone 3G or having to go for a 3G iPad. Now if Apple finally got around to allowing tethering, that would change things.

 ;D ;D Funny Quote.

...Another funny Quote is by Bill gates about 5 years ago when he said, "This is the year of the Tablet."

Why tablets might actually catch on this year, especially in education, is largely because Apple lines up a whole community that's willing to actually spend money on tablet based media.  Apple users tend to spend more money than the Linux and Windows crowds.  And publishing companies having faith Steve Jobs can do that makes it worth their time to start allowing more of their media onto these types of devices.

...And it doesn't hurt that Apple set the bar real high in creating a device with an awesome user experience, instead of the crap tablets Micro$oft has been slinging for the past 5 years.

So yeah, the Kindle, the (sch)Nook, the iPad, and the Android tablets are finally going to get a lot of content digitized.  ...Still amazing to see some educational institutions resisting it.

After spending only one full day with the iPad on my desk at school I have no doubt that this will be looked at as the year it all changed for education. The thing is practically tailor made to put learning in the hands of the individual learner and out of the classroom-herded through system model. Intiatives like NY's 'school of one' will make serious hay with the iPad and the knock offs that'll follow.

I agree with everything that has been said.  I had the first one in my school - and began using it more than any computer.  My administrators were so infatuated with it, they got their own - and can't live without them!  In Teachers hands they are a terribly valuable tool.... but the kicker is when the various administrators realize that it would be cheaper and easier for the kids than all of the books they now carry!

Sorry about that.

I maintain things on a schedule unless someone mentions a few posts that are out of hand. Apparently we got targeted by something fun in the last week. However, the bans have been handed out and the spam should be pruned by the top of the hour.
