Something new seems to have popped up in this week’s betas. In addition to the less gendered voice for Siri in the States and the strengthening of AirTag, both of which we hit on Wednesday, a piece from iMore says there’s something new for HomePod. Or maybe someplace new.
The latest HomePod Software 15.4 beta seems to have snuck in with the one for iOS, bringing with it Dutch voice recognition for Siri. It’s not just that it speaks the language (and forgive me for not knowing whether it did before), but it can also differentiate between people when they speak.
What’s strange is HomePod mini is currently not available in the Netherlands - aka Holland, where they speak Dutch. Wouldn’t you think they’d speak Hollandaise? Anyway, the addition of Dutch has iMore (and probably others) wondering whether an expansion of HomePod mini availability will be part of Apple’s anticipated spring product event. We don’t know when or if that’s happening, though the date bandied about has been 8 March.
