“CODA” Gets Limited Theatrical Run in U.S.
31 MARCH 2022 - The U.S. is getting another chance to see CODA on the big screen. MarketWatch says Apple plans to put this year’s Oscar winner for Best Picture in more than 600 theaters across the states for a limited release.
Lots of potential community building around the re-release. First, the piece says CODA “will have open captions so that it is accessible to the Deaf community and people who are hard of hearing.” Also, it’s playing where it was played out. MarketWatch says:
One theater participating in the run is Gloucester Cinema, located in Gloucester, Mass., where “CODA” was largely filmed. The theater announced on its Facebook page earlier in the week that the film would be playing there for “one week only” starting Friday, though it posted an update Wednesday saying that it plans to extend showings by another week “as sales have been so strong.”
Commenting on the re-release, Erica Anderson, a member of Apple’s film-distribution team, said:
As our industry recognizes CODA with its highest honor, we’re excited once again to bring this moving film to theaters so that audiences can share in the experience of watching it together.
