A weird bit of weirdness for Apple One subscribers on Monday. MacRumors ran a piece saying that a lot of people’s subscriptions to Apple’s various bundles had been cancelled. According to the report:
Apple One includes a 30-day free trial for any services that customers did not already subscribe to individually, and that trial period [ended Monday] for those who signed up for Apple One on its first day of availability. Following the end of the trial period, however, some customers [were] seeing their Apple One subscription listed as expired and/or have been billed individually for services like Apple TV+ and Apple Music that should be rolled into Apple One.
Personally, I experienced a variation on that theme. In the middle of the night Monday I got a notification from my Apple payment method, letting me know that Apple had refunded me $29.95. When I checked my subscriptions - sure enough, I was not subscribed to Apple One Premier. Funny thing though: While I was also not subscribed to Apple Music, Apple News Plus, or iCloud Storage, all of those services were still working for me. Rather than subscribing to Apple One again, I decided to wait it out and see what happened. Glad I did. I got charged the $29.95 while writing Tuesday’s Mac OS Ken. My subscriptions now include Apple One Premier with the next billing scheduled for 30 December.
We’ll see what happens.
